Hurricane Maria and Precious — November 20, 2017

Hurricane Maria and Precious

Hurricane Maria? Yes. Hurricane Precious? lol, there’s nothing like that.

Forgive my manners. Hi guys! It’s been long since I last posted on my blog. Well, somethings did happen that took me offline for a while and that’s what I’ll be feeding you on right now. Ready? Let’s get started.

Errmmm, before we get started let me put this down. Do FEEL FREE to drop your comments, like and share. Thank you.

It all started on the 17th of September with Dominica on a storm watch slated to happen on Monday, 18th September 2017. If you are current with world news, you’ll know this wasn’t far from the period Hurricane Harvey and Irma hit Florida and Houston. Dominica was also expected to get hit by Hurricane Harvey but oh boy was God merciful.πŸ˜₯

Take a look at the image I got via whatsapp.

Was I scared? Well, I wasn’t really scared especially since Dominica was spared from Hurricane Harvey. So I thought same thing was going to happen. We prayed hard in Church about it and after service, my friends and I also took taking pictures hard, lol. Who knows what would be left of the Island after the storm but truthfully speaking, that’s not why we took pictures.

MONDAY finally came and I was indecisive about where to stay for the storm. Should I stay in my house or go to a friend’s place? So I thought. After all I went to a friend’s place awaiting Hurricane Harvey and it didn’t come. I felt unease staying at home so when I finally decided to go (lack of peace is most times God speaking) I called a friend living nearby and started packing few things. I lived alone so it was better to go to a friend’s place wasn’t it? By then I had been told the hurricane was intensifying and increasing in miles and was already at a category four. Wawu! warris dis? I cannot come and die o. That was how i hurriedly packed my things, hoping to leave before it got dark.

By the time I was done cooking (oh i didn’t tell you that my friend’s cooking gas had finished so I had to cook some food to take along), the light had gone as they said  and it had started raining. So I had to stay back home and alone.

I have a good friend by the name Stephen Akintunjoye. If you don’t know him and you don’t listen to his gospel music 🎡🎼🎹🎀@Rehlar, sorry ooo..lol. Errmm..why did I even mention his name? Anyway, let’s continue.

He, Stephen a.k.a Rehlar later called me to give me more info about the storm. I was told it was going to start by 8pm. Guess what? It started exactly at 8pm. I had closed all windows, locked my door well, ensured my Dominica neighbors were home and prayed. The wind became strong and the rain was very heavy. I had to hurriedly leave the parlor to my room. I made sure I carried my bag which I had packed down earlier on. I heard sounds of things clashing and the down pour was so heavy.

All of a sudden I heard my neighbors screaming for help. I became terrified. What could be going on with them? Why the scream for help? I went back to the parlor hoping to find out by peeping through the window. As I got to the parlor, I saw muddy water sipping in. I forgot to say that I went to the toilet before the scream for help and saw that my bath tub was getting filled with muddy water. How right?

I got more frightened. The wind had a very strange and scary sound. Many said it sounded like it was talking. Of a true, the sound of the wind was more terrifying than the effect of the storm on the Country that night.πŸ˜€πŸ˜’πŸ˜‘πŸ˜±πŸ˜±πŸ˜¬πŸ˜°πŸ’¨πŸ’¨β›…

I ran back to my room, continued playing some cool gospel music on my phone when I noticed that my room was leaking so immediately I put some bowls underneath it. Then I went back to bed with my bag on the bed.

Now here is the main thing.

Suddenly! I heard a strong sound like whoop…guess what? It was water. Water along with log of woods and other things entered my room. It broke my room door, turned my bed, and bent my wardrobe (my wardrobe almost fell). At that moment, I thought it was going to break through the walls of my room and carry me into the sea. lol. It sounds funny now but it wasn’t funny then. I started crying for help. My survival instinct told me to break through one of the windows of my room in other to escape. So I began breaking through the glass window with my bare hands. I didn’t feel any pain while in the process. I just wanted to land onto a safe side but oh boy was I wrong, outside was flooded and deadly. The wind could actually carry me so I sat back inside.

I started screaming the name of Jesus. I began the prayer of mercy. At some point my mind started imagining life after death. Ah! no…O Lord I cannot die. I prayed more earnestly hoping God would be merciful towards me. I also prayed for my friends, Church members and hoped someone else was also praying for me.

I asked God to stop my room from leaking because my room was already flooded to  my bed level and I didn’t want to die of flooding. The Lord answered and my room stopped leaking. I also asked God to give me peace in the midst of the storm since I couldn’t stop the storm and the Lord did.

By 1am, the wind was beginning to calm down. I slept for a while although i was waking up constantly. By 2am, my neighbours had told two samaritans, a man and a lady that I was in my room because these people were already going from house to house to help people. They broke the rest of the window carefully and brought me out then I went to my neighbour’s house upstairs.  Their roof had gone but a portion of the house was spared.

This whole experience has taught me so many things. You don’t have to wait to experience somethings before being nice or helpful to those that go through it. When you hear of people who lose their homes or need relief in Countries prone to natural disasters, what do you do? Ignore? hmmm.

Well….check these out. I acted according to the Holyspirit’s instruction to take these pictures. No one would want to take picture in that situation. Well, except me.lol.😏

So guys I hope you enjoyed reading my experience. Please do drop your comment. Let me know if you’ve experienced any natural disaster before and feel free to share your ordeal with us too.

Hey! Don’t forget to share. Thank you. I love you..muaah.πŸ˜„πŸ˜˜πŸ˜˜πŸ˜
